Mahou produce an IPA in a can with an alcohol content of 4.5%.
Mahou San Miguel is a Spanish brewery which began life in Madrid in 1890 under the name of Hijos de Casimiro Mahou, fábrica de hielo y cerveza (The Sons of Casimiro Mahou, production of ice and beer), and it is the leading brand in the Spanish beer market.
Nice taste, smooth, good flavour and fairly ‘light’ in comparison to some others – Ronda IPA’s, Carrefour IPA etc – but similar in some ways to the Ardales IPA’s in this respect.
At only 4.5% alcohol, whereas many of the IPA’s range from 5% to 8%. Very pleasant, though, despite lacking a bit of ‘body’ IMHO.
In 1957, Hijos de Casimiro Mahou became Mahou, S.A.
In 2000, Mahou bought 70% of San Miguel from the Danone Group, adding to the 30% stake it already held and resulting a wholly Spanish-owned brewery group. In 2000, the company was renamed Grupo Mahou-San Miguel, but was further changed in 2014 to simply Mahou San Miguel.
