Breakfast is often touted as the most important meal of the day and is quite a hearty affair in many countries, and the Full English Breakfast is quite an institution, but there are many other ‘full’ variations around the world. The following are fairly typical versions, although the possibilities and combinations are almost limitless and will obviously vary greatly at times in particular areas or countries.
Full Welsh Breakfast
- Bacon: Thick-sliced pork belly that’s fried until the fat melts
- Laverbread: A seaweed purée that’s often fried into cakes or served as a side

- Eggs: Fried eggs or poached eggs

Notes
- Laverbread is made from seaweed that’s collected from the rocks off certain coasts in Wales. It’s cleaned, boiled, and then mixed with oats and/or flour to form patties.
- The patties are fried in the bacon fat.
- Cockles are mixed with flour, baking powder, and seasoning.
- The batter is then cooked in a pan to make cockle pancakes.
