Old signs, metal, porcelain and ceramic, always seem to be popular and some are highly collectable and can fetch quite ridiculous prices on occasion. The current record is $1.5 million for a Musgo Gasoline sign from the mid-1920’s.

Rust – genuine, not faux – can often be an added attraction for people when it comes to choosing signs and does not necessarily reduce the value of the item.

Old cigarette advertisements always seem to be popular, along with all the various garage and petrol signs.

Most signs, however, tend to be priced very reasonably and find their way into many homes as part of the interior design, it’s only the rare, highly popular or those with special motifs that sell for higher prices.

There is also a flourishing market for copies.
