After a week of storms, heavy rains and rough seas, this evening was as calm as…a calm sea. And it was a first outing with the small, lightweight 40mm f2 lens.
Light cloud, so when the sun did peep through it glistened on the water.
The 40mm f2 is small, therefore more inconspicuous when out and about, and half the weight and about half the price of my favourite ‘nifty fifty’, the 50mm f1.8 S.
Apparently, and I only learned this recently, despite most people generally opting for 35mm or 50mm when out and about, particularly on the streets, 40mm is actually the equivalent of what the human eye sees. We learn something new every day.
Runners, joggers, walkers, cyclists…they were all out, many back in shorts (or maybe never stopped wearing them).
Obviously, being a lot cheaper and not being an ‘S’ series Nikon lens means there are some compromises, especially with vignetting when wide open, but in practice you probably won’t notice too much unless you pixel-peep. Being a bit less conspicuous on occasion can have many advantages, of course.
So, where am I?…
